Hello from Namibia!
I hope you have been enjoying your “hot” summer! J We feel sorry for you, we really do! At least we don’t get the humidity here. We had some real intense heat ourselves, but have enjoyed cool temperatures of around 70 degrees here with overcast skies for the past couple of days. Sadly, after anxiously anticipating the arrival of winter (June-September) each year now only to be disappointed when the season comes and goes with not much cold, we have finally come to grips with the fact that winter here bears no resemblance whatsoever to winter as we have known it! (kinda like the waterless “rivers”). In Arandis “winter” means only that the nights are bearable and we can have the hope of a cool day or two once every two weeks or so. Still, we take what we can get and boy do we cherish those cool days!
The end of August here in Namibia marks the end of the third term for the school children who go on holiday (school break) beginning this Monday and lasting until the second week of September. Talitha Kumi celebrated the end of the term by having a “Fun Day” this past Friday. Adults and children alike participated in relays and other fun games. Next week a few of our short term volunteers from Germany will be hosting many activities for the children in our ministry including much loved trips to the beach. Read the rest of this entry

Hello from Namibia!
“In all hard work there is profit, but merely talking about it only brings poverty.” ~Proverbs 14:23
This verse was the basis for my lesson to the children in our ministry on Friday afternoon. We brought all of our children that we have in Arandis (62 + onlookers) together on Friday in the Town Hall (multi-purpose building). We worshipped, prayed, played together, and memorized that verse – which I hope sticks with them for the rest of their lives. Read the rest of this entry

When we boarded that plane to return to the U.S. for our home assignment time our expectations were quite high. One of the things that I really needed out of my time here was/is a fresh dose of confidence to continue the mission. I’m not burnt out, just in need of the mental energy that it takes to step out in faith on a daily basis and perform well in a role that is bigger than I am. Being the Program Director over a foster care ministry and a school when you’re neither a social worker nor an educator is a bit overwhelming (my degree is in Psychology, and my background is more in youth ministry and foster care as a parent). Hello from Namibia!
We have been doing our best to keep you up-to-date about the saga of Sululu and the 10 children. As mentioned in our newsletter, she recently surrendered them to us to be put into foster families because she can no longer take care of them. They range from ages 8 – 18.
Memory – Juliane – Linda – Fransiska – Angelika
Mcdonald – Brandon – Irene – Mcshall – Annalise
We have moved as quickly as possible (sometimes in Africa that means “ very slowly”), and have now placed the 7 youngest into foster families. Soon, we will have a mom moving from Windhoek to Arandis to take care of the oldest 3, because they are not ready to be on their own. This is a HUGE answer to prayer, but the most difficult days are ahead of us. We have done this in faith that God will provide, and we know He will.
So, we are asking for help. We really have a need for sponsors for all 10 children as soon as possible.
Please see the attachment, which will tell you all about the children and our sponsorship program.
Though we are obviously putting out a call for financial help with these children, I am MUCH more interested in prayer support for them. They are in great need still, and not out of the pit quite yet. They NEED God’s help, and His touch to heal them of all their personal pain from past abuse and neglect. Thank you in advance for standing with us in this.
If you have ANY questions, please let me know!
Love and Blessings!
Steve
